CHLA provides general education for children and youth who would not have had that opportunity. Providing tutoring support, materials, dedicated teachers and special programs … developing skills for social, cultural and educational success.
Our mission through our education programs is to break the cycle of poverty and ignorance by providing the life-changing educational tools necessary for youth to become productive, self-fulfilled members of their society. Through the programs of Casa Hogar Los Angelitos, children can become healthy as a whole child. Children can change the future of the world.
“Young people of Mexico need solid education … education that allows them to continue their studies, and gives them skills when they join the workforce …” The News, Mexico, November 10, 2009-Minister of Education-Mexico.
Language and writing skills in Spanish and English open doors and job opportunities. Computer classes enable students to learn modern technology and skills needed for today…and tomorrow’s world. Statistics show that students who finish high school have a 3 times greater opportunity to break out of poverty than those without a high school education. In Mexico the average completed grade in school is 6.7. Statistics show that students that have English skills can earn 60% higher wage with the same basic education than those who do not have English skills.
Through cultural programs such as folkloric dance young people develop a sense of history, self confidence and positive cultural pride that is part of their own culture…through such activities the opportunity to learn about other cultures provides a better understanding between nations, peoples and cultures.
“Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music” – William Stafford
Music, dance and the arts provide a dimension in the development of children that are immeasurable, stimulating the brain, fostering physical coordination, developing self discipline, self expression and confidence. Education and positive extra-curricular activities such as music, dance, art and athletics that develop personal skills are a much better alternative to gang activity, crime, drugs, prostitution and illegal immigration.
Violence in Mexico, illegal immigration is all over the news … throughout the world. What is the long term answer? Desperate and hopeless families cross borders illegally, even at the risk of death and imprisonment. Crime, prostitution, ignorance, slavery, drugs and violence is a serious social problem. Children without opportunity grow into adults without opportunity. Children and adults can become criminals when they feel they have no other option, hope or opportunity. Guns or walls don’t change hearts … education, hope, opportunity and a sense of security in the future changes hearts. An investment in education, hope and opportunity is an investment in world peace and security for everyone.
